Brief: Nestled within a maturing tree line in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest lies the cabin, a retreat designed to harmonize modern living with nature’s tranquility. This project called for a sensitive approach to construction, balancing the need for a contemporary space with the preservation of its serene forest setting.
The design revolves around a principal cabin, elevated on a metal stilt system to maximize views and minimize site impact on the steep slope. The structure’s sleek, dark exterior blends seamlessly with the surroundings, creating a subtle yet striking presence. The main level features an open-plan layout, enhancing connectivity between the living, dining, and kitchen areas, all oriented towards panoramic forest views and offering two bedrooms for guests. Floor-to-ceiling windows ensure that natural light floods the interior, fostering a sense of openness and connection with the outdoors. An expansive lower wellness deck and front deck extend the living space outdoors, providing moments for relaxation and contemplation. The thoughtful incorporation of a sauna and cold plunge barrel offers a luxurious touch, embracing the wellness theme. Upstairs lies the primary suite, ensuring comfort and privacy.
On-site parking and access trails are carefully planned to maintain the natural landscape, while vertical wood siding and an offset gabled roof enhance the structure’s modern aesthetic without disrupting the environment. This project not only provides a sanctuary for its occupants but also exemplifies a seamless blend of modern architecture and nature’s beauty, making it a true retreat from the demands of everyday life.
